Sangria - andalusisches Rezept

Sangria – Andalusian recipe

Sangria – Andalusian recipe – probably the most Spanish drink of all, next to Tinto de verano, which hardly anyone outside Spain knows. There are at least as many recipes for sangria as there are Spanish families, and each one claims to be THE original recipe.

The ingredients for sangria

The bloodletting, as Sangria is translated, consists of fruit juice, red wine, citrus fruit pieces and a brandy. Sangria is always drunk cold and in Spain is always served with ice cubes.

The wine

Before we turn to the other ingredients, we choose a suitable wine. Please do not buy ready-made sangria in the supermarket! If you know the word “Plörre”, you know what I mean. If you want to get to know it, you are welcome to try the ready-made sangrias, contrary to my good advice. In addition to lots of sugar and flavour enhancers, sometimes you also get the fat head the next day for free.

It may be a medium good wine that does not come from the barrique barrel. It should be dry to semi-dry and have less than 13 % alcohol. In the end, the only thing that helps is to try it out.

The citrus fruits

Oranges, lemons, limes in half slices and pressed as juice in a 1:1 ratio to the wine. What you use depends on your taste or your (secret) recipe. Recommendation: The sweeter the wine, the more lemon and lime, the drier the wine, the more or more orange.

Other fruit

In some recipes, a finely chopped apple is added, in some others apple juice. In Andalusia, peaches are often added. They give the sangria a special flavour.

The brandy

If it has to be. In terms of taste, it doesn’t add much to the sangria, just alcohol. I do without it and prefer to drink a glass more.

If anything, then with Cointreau and gin. See recipe Sangria with Gin.

Sugar

Absolutely not! – If you do, it’s your own fault.

And very important: what do you mix it in?

Never in a 10-litre plastic bucket! That much is certain.

A 1.5-2.5 l container is ideal. You can fit a bottle of wine and the fruit juice in it without leaving anything behind. You can double the amount in a 3 l container.

Ingredients

8 oranges
1 apple
2 peaches
1 bottle of red wine
1 stick of cinnamon

Squeeze 6 oranges and pour the juice into a suitable carafe with the red wine.

Peel the oranges, do not peel the apple and peaches and cut both into small pieces. Add these to the carafe with the cinnamon stick.

Chill the Sangria for 1-2 hours

Serve

Serve with ice cubes in the glass, in the carafe and additionally in a bowl for afters.

Alternatives
