Melonen Bowle mit Gin

Melon punch – watermelon with gin and lemonade

Melon punch – watermelon with gin and lemonade. The melon punch in the melon is a real eye-catcher. A refreshing cocktail for the summer that can be made in no time with a few ingredients.

Ingredients

1 watermelon (see melons)
400 ml gin (alternatively white rum)
Juice of 2 squeezed lemons
1 bottle of lemonade
Ice cubes

Cut a lid off the watermelon below the stalk to about 1/5 of the height. You can see the thickness of the rind. Then cut off a thin slice (2-3 mm) on the side opposite the stalk to make it stand up better. Be careful not to cut into the flesh of the fruit. (Pay attention to the thickness of the skin).

Hollow out the watermelon and collect the flesh in a bowl. Do not hollow out the bottom too deeply so that it remains dense.

Mash or chop the melon pieces in the bowl (do not puree) and squeeze them through a sieve into a second bowl. We only need the juice.

Add the collected melon juice, gin, lemon juice and a few ice cubes to the hollowed-out melon. Pour lemonade to the brim.

Serve

Put the melon on the table with a ladle and glasses. Serve with a bowl of ice cubes and a carafe with a second mixture of gin and lemonade, to pour on top. A great start to a colourful tapas evening. Or on 3.8 for Watermelon Day.
